We learnt about Van Gogh and his art, and a little bit about his life. We discovered that his art developed over time - from looking dark and gloomy, to bright and with clear brush strokes.

This is a great website for you to check out to find out more... Van Gogh Museum Click here to have some fun... Make a diorama.
We also started thinking about our new topic - "DISCOVERY". We learned about the concept of "I see", "I think", "I wonder". We watched a short video clip and had a go at thinking deeply about what it was all about... Watch it again here. We came up with some great thoughts and will be looking at many more interesting clips to get us thinking throughout the term.
In maths we looked at division and fractions, and we began Roald Dahl's book Matilda in reading. We are looking at Roald Dahl this term, so we all got together and made a display on the wall for our work. Today we looked at how Dahl uses interesting words to describe his characters. We discussed how he gave us a really good impression of how "The Trunchbull" moves, sounds, and treats children. We all had a very clear image in our mind of what she would look like. We want to be able to describe characters in our own writing like this!
In week 3 we will have some visitors to the school. We need to practice their national anthem. Click on this link to learn and practice it! Australian National Anthem.
All in all we had a great first day and are very much looking forward to what the rest of the term brings...
